Raising Awareness, And Helping Those in Need!

Just about a month ago I was on facebook, when I came across Lane Goodwin's prayer page.. I liked the page thinking nothing of it. However, for some reason that day at work, all I could think about was that page. I went home got on his page, read all the post from his mom and his family, and looked at almost all of his pictures. As I did this, I just broke down in tears. It hit me, how can any child be put through this! Why should a childs family have to suffer the pain, of watching their child suffer or even losing them! For all of you who dont know about Lane, he is young boy from Kentucky, who at the age of 10, was diagnosed with Aleovlar Rhapydsarcoma. Lane lost his battle just last week on Wednesday October 17, 2012 at 7:53pm. When I saw the post his mom posted on the page of his passing, I just broke down and cried. No child should lose their life to this "Monster," called cancer. No mother or father, brother or sister should have to say goodbye to their loved one, at a young age, after watching them suffer through all these treatments and therapies, that they had to go through! After hearing Lanes story, and becoming emotionally attached to it, I realized I must help, and the perfect oppurtunity came about. I am a high school student at a school just outside of Nashville, Tn and I am a member of their DECA Club. In this club you do competitions, and a friend and I are doing a competition over public relations. Well as most know this means, campaigning something, or getting the word out there. At first we were going to campaign ways to find a cure for childhood obesity, but after hearing Lane's story we decided we are going to campaign Childhood Cancer Awareness. We decided for our event we are going to do a 5k walk, and have the walk end at the main event, where there will be games, food, and lots of information on how to stay informed about cancer, and how to help those in need! We were going to do this event in November, however due to potentially cold weather, we have moved the event to April. We still want to do something to help, the Goodwin Family, and those in the hospital at Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital, in the Oncology and Hematology Dept. So we have decided that we are going to have a toy drive, and ask for toys for kids of all ages as well as donations for the childrens familys, and fleece to help make no-sew blankets, so we can give these children a little piece of home while they are staying in the hospital. If you would like to help please feel free to email me at wyntergraves@gmail.com anytime between now and December 10! I will be more the welcome to give you information on how to help!!!! I will be posting frequently updating the date of our event, and to let all of you know how we are doing as far as donations! Thanks, ahead of time for taking the time to read my blog!!!! :)
